Title: Senior / Principal Consultant Renewables
Reports to: Aqualis Offshore & OWC Regional Director
Location: North East USA

Job Overview

The Principal Consultant will leverage their existing network in the USA Offshore Wind sector to:

  • prospect and develop leads
  • convert consultancy assignment opportunities
  • work on and/or project manage consultancy assignments for a range of offshore wind development topics relevant to their field of expertise (project development, energy, electrical, grid and transmission, geotechnical or structural engineering, O&M/Asset management or other relevant field, etc)

They will manage the teams of multi-disciplined engineers needed to deliver our scopes of work, including OWC and non-OWC staff, both from the OWC back offices in Europe and Asia and the Aqualis Offshore (sister company) office in Houston, TX.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work as technical lead on projects to accomplish the overall delivery to clients within the timeframe, costs and quality standards established
  • Represent OWC as a key domain expert, sharing knowledge and experience to support the wider development of competencies within OWC, and to enhance overall assignment execution to clients
  • Generate and prospect leads – Including representing OWC at conferences, seminars and meetings to establish business development leads, and to market OWC to prospective clients
  • Follow up on leads to generate new work
  • Independently prepare tenders and proposals
  • Consult on all matters of offshore wind relevant to their specialism
  • Responsible for keeping projects on budget and on schedule
  • Attend regular internal meetings and external/third-party meetings as required
  • Ensure all deliverables are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies
  • Manage multi-disciplined teams of engineers (and other technical staff) in the completion of due diligence assignments for exacting clients
  • Maintain a consistently high degree of quality and technical excellence in all work
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members
  • Identify and communicate relevant technological developments or regulatory changes, which may impact the business or provide new opportunities

Specific Requirements

  • The role is to be initially home office based in North East USA with flexibility to working hours. Occasional onsite and possible offshore attendance is expected
  • There will be a line management/reporting link to the Aqualis Offshore office in Houston, TX as well as the OWC office in the UK
  • The objective is to grow the US revenues to the point where the candidate will have the opportunity to recruit and grow a local consultancy team, therefore establishing an OWC office in the North East region of the US


Essential Desirable
  • Qualified to degree standard in Engineering or a relevant subject
  • First or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent
  • Chartered member of a relevant professional institutional body

Work experience

Essential Desirable
  • At least 10 years’ experience of working in an engineering/renewables consultancy with large projects, working on offshore or renewable related project work
  • Experience in the development, construction and operation of onshore and offshore wind projects
  • Experience of conducting lenders technical advisor assignment

Technical Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Personal Attributes and Competencies

Essential Desirable
  • Ability to co-ordinate, direct and lead projects and work under own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Excellent technical knowledge and experience of offshore wind farms with specialist knowledge of their area of expertise
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Familiar with commercial and contractual issues and able to provide guidance to OWC clients
  • Good sales and business development techniques
  • Project orientated with a keen interest and knowledge of offshore wind farm industry and project managements
  • Project management ability, qualification desirable
  • Project management qualification
  • Understanding of technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects (including project finance, M&A markets, regulatory/policy matters)
