OWC completes East Anglia THREE strategy work

26 February 2018 – Offshore Wind Consultants Limited (OWC) announced it has successfully completed a contract for the provision of support covering a site investigation, preliminary foundation analysis, risk appraisal and turbine layout assessment for ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia THREE offshore windfarm.

The East Anglia THREE project is wholly owned by ScottishPower Renewables. It covers an area of approximately 305 square kilometres, and will consist of up to 172 wind turbines, with an installed capacity of up to 1,200 MW.

OWC, part of Oslo-listed energy consultancy group Aqualis ASA, carried out an assessment of the layout constraints across the East Anglia THREE site, assisted with the development of the overall layout of the wind turbine generators, while considering a number of variables including bathymetry, soil conditions, seabed mobility, foundation type and foundation installation.

“We were delighted to be able to support ScottishPower Renewables in their foundations strategy for East Anglia Three.  We understood at this stage that all foundation types were still being evaluated and we believe that by applying our newly developed engineering techniques we were able to recommend the most economical options during last summer’s site investigation campaign. Our initial analysis shows that significant savings in capex budget may be possible,” said Will Cleverly, a Director of OWC. The contract value for OWC is undisclosed.

“OWC are leaders in their field and provide advice that is both strategically relevant and technically advanced.  Their support on East Anglia THREE built on previous work on the East Anglia ONE project and wider East Anglia area. This was a key benefit and is helping us to optimise our design and installation strategies.” says Luis Costa, ScottishPower Renewables’ geotechnical lead on East Anglia THREE.

Offshore Wind Consultants (OWC) is a globally focused consultancy providing independent services to the offshore renewables industry.

OWC will be exhibiting at the ScottishPower Renewables sponsored Southern North Sea Conference & Exhibition in Norwich on the 28thFebruary and 1st March. You can meet OWC experts at their booth number A13.
